Getting away with your partner is a wonderful way to see the world and reconnect in your relationship. But with many places suited to families with children, sometimes it’s nice to get away on a couples-only holiday without kids around. We’ve come up with the six best places to go whatever your budget and holiday type!
Budget Beach: Thailand
If budget beach holidays make you think of unromantic packed seasides with package holidays and long flight connections from hell, think again.
The first tip is to travel outside of school holiday times – this will be much cheaper and you’re far less likely to be travelling around children, too.
Secondly, look for destinations that get you more bang for your buck. Thailand is a popular destination for solo and couple travellers, where you could nab a private pool in a hotel lodge from as little as £400 for three nights in Bangkok at the Raweekanlaya Hotel, and even less in other areas.
Luxury Beach: The Maldives
A classic couples destination and one for a trip of a lifetime, the Maldives is famous for its secluded resorts with private huts over a clear blue sea and five star service.
There are so many luxury resorts to choose from, your only real hardship will be deciding which one to go to! Packages in May 2025 start from around £1700 per person for a week, including flights from London Heathrow.
Budget Skiing: Bulgaria
Skiing is a fun activity for sporty couples, but the costs can quickly rack up. The good news is that if you think laterally about your ski location and/or the airport you set off from, you can nab a bargain.
For example, you could get an all-inclusive 7-night stay at St Ivan Rilski Spa Resort in Bansko, Bulgaria for around £500 per person in March.
Luxury Skiing: Trois Les Soeurs
Luxury ski resorts are available in every ski location. A romantic hotel room will set you back around £900 per person while a suite would be closer to £1300 for seven nights, at most resorts.
But for something as fun as skiing, it seems a shame to only go with your significant other. You could always make a trip of it with other friends to enjoy your time together –The Luxury Chalet Company offers private chalets that can room groups of people in a classy environment, where you’ll have plenty of opportunity to spend one-on-one time with your partner but also go flying down the slopes with your besties.
A chalet is also great for splitting the cost and affording luxury on a tighter budget – a 12-bed chalet in Trois Les Soeurs costs around £8350 – divided by twelve people that’s £695 for seven nights of skiing luxury fun.
Budget City: Prague
Prague is a popular budget destination for a reason: it’s walkable, full of history, and food and drink is cheap.
Stay in the old town for a truly romantic city break getaway. Check out deals on Lastminute.com for flight and hotel packages from just £100 per person for a three-night stay. It’s such a close hop to get to from any UK airport that you can whisk your other half away on a Friday and be back home on Sunday night without feeling jetlagged!
Luxury City: Venice
Venice is one of the most beautiful and historical cities in Europe – and that’s why it comes with an extra tax. But it’s an experience of a lifetime, especially if you plan to go away during one of their famous Carnival, which is usually in February or March. Hotels for 2025 will be booked up now – but booking ahead for 2026 now will ensure you get the best package.
Venice is one of those cities where it is worth going all-out for luxury. A stay at the Baglioni Hotel Luna on the Grand Canal will set you back around £400 a night – but the experience is like nothing else you’ve done before. Book private one-to-one tours with local guides to get the true inside knowledge of the city and, of course, take a gondola ride for the romance.
