The banking industry’s reputation broadly improved in 2025. While some banks saw modest gains, customer views on regional banks significantly improved to pre-pandemic levels, more than making up for the reputational damage of bank failures two years prior. in reputation as consumers’ trust in the banking sector continued to evolve following the banking turbulence of recent years.
Reputation research group Reptrak surveyed the public, who were required to have familiarity with the banks they rated, on four key questions assessing trust, respect, admiration and overall positive sentiment to measure the emotional connection that customers feel toward a company, assigning each firm a score ranging from zero to 100. Huntington Bank, based in Columbus, Ohio, rose slightly by 1.1 points to 82.5, consolidating its reputation as a trusted regional bank.

Wintrust enters the 2025 ranking for the first time with a score of 82.9, reflecting its growing regional presence.
